Nineteen crimes turned convicts into colonists. Upon conviction British rogues guilty of a least one of the 19 crimes were sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death. As pioneers in a frontier penal colony, they forged a new country and new lives, brick by brick. This wine celebrates the rules they broke and the culture they built.

Criminally easy wine to drink: Light bodied, fresh & crisp with lifted aromas of passionfruit, grapefruit, gooseberry and guava.

Golden, straw colour. Partial malolactic fermentation and weekly lees stirring creates a wine that is both vibrant and textural. Full, dry with sweet peach, nectarine, citrus and biscotti with a lingering stone fruit finish.

Bright and clear with a pale golden hue. Lifted aromas of white peach, pear blossom and ginger spice. On the palate, ripe pears with nectarine and orange peel; and creamy texture which enhances the rich fruit flavours. A spine of fine, balanced acidity leads to a long mineral-infused finish. Well-structured with both the richness and poise that typifies Akarua Pinot Gris.

Akarua Rose has a Pale Pink with clear hues. Brightly aromatic with cherry blossom, rose petal, perfume, pear, peach, and strawberry. A rich entry with vivid fruits of ripe stone fruit, strawberry, raspberry, nougat, biscuit, and lime. The palate is dry, medium bodied with vibrant acidity, lovely concentration, and weight. The wine finishes long with a touch of cranberry.

Many of the vineyards he developed have gone on to win global recognition. In 1985, Allan bought land in the Rapaura district of Marlborough. This was to become the home of the family wine making venture.

This elegant salmon pink Rosé immediately presents luscious strawberries and cream on the nose. Ripe bright berry fruit, meet with white peach stone fruit on the palate with a dry, medium-dry finish and clean refreshing acidity.

An opulent, oaky, buttery and toasty styled Chardonnay created with 100% oak barrel fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation and oak aged in a mix of French and American oak.

This little Rosé has aromas of strawberry and rock melon with spice and stone fruits. Strawberry again on entry with raspberry and apple. Soft and nicely structure with mouth-watering, tangy red fruits. Lively and balanced - dry finish.

Joe Babich favours 'a fuller, riper, softer style of Sauvignon Blanc'. It's not a jump out of the glass style, but the wines develop well. The latest releases reflect a rising input of grapes from the company's Cowslip Valley vineyard in the Waihopai Valley, which gives less herbaceous fruit characters that it's other Marlborough vineyards. This smooth wine features strong, ripe flavours of melons and limes, moderate acidity and a rounded, rich finish - great drinkability and well regarded all over the world.

Babydoll's BABYDOLL sheep live beneath the vines, nibbling on grass and weeds and giving their name to these delicious wines. Small but mighty, they're wonderful groundskeepers. Yes, they need a little help to keep the mowing going. But it's all for the good of the grapes.
